Do you think we need to be there longer than planned? Or do you think we need to step out and let Iraq take care of its own problems?

Stevenson asked:

Is it true that the Iraq war caused soldiers, resources, and attention to be diverted away from Afghanistan during the Taliban’s crucial re-arming phase from 2003 to 2008?

Or is that just an urban legend?

five kids down asked:

I’ve heard (for a few years now) that we should be going to Darfur to intervene and stop the genocide. Should I mention that its not the so-called warhawk neocons that keep mentioning this to me, it seems like its mostly the anit-Iraq war liberals that want this. What I want to know is why we should go there, when we’re already in a war that ended genocide, and the same people that cry about how bad Iraq is are the same people that want to intervene with Darfur?

Also, the two biggest reasons I’ve heard about why we should send troops to Darfur is
1) Stop the genocide (Like Saddam pulled against the Kurds?)
2) China’s getting their oil (that sounds familiar)

So what’s the difference between an unpopular actual war and this popular proposal of war? To me this seems like hypocrisy, but there HAS to be a good explanation somewhere… please tell me!

psychosolodiver asked:

Regardless of the fact that the reasons for the war were trumped up, I keep hearing that the Iraq invasion was worth the death and destruction because now they have “democracy.” If that is true, who is next and why?

Saudi Arabia?
Jordan?
Syria?
Pakistan?
North Korea?

Iran is a democracy, but for some reason, we don’t seem to be fond of them, either.

Arnold Hicks asked:

Did George W. Bush have business ties to any oil companies that made him rich when invading iraq? One of my friends says Bush has stocks in shell gas and he made millions by invading iraq by getting cheap oil, or is this just utter bull **** conspiracy.

Violence in Iraq is up again. Should the US military stay longer in Iraq to quell it? If not, would that jeopardize George W. Bush’s mission of a stable and peaceful Iraq?

For terrorists to re-enter Iraq form other regions?
This makes no sense the strategy; and Iran is also put in in fortunate position at a time when lunatics are in control there as well.
Who is pulling the strings here? This is madness.
Obama looked like someonegut punched him before his speech, something lacking

Genuine Female Behind My Avatar asked:

Iraq was not behind what happened on 9/11. Even Bush admitted this “error” of intelligence on the way out. The passports of those terrorists who highjacked the planes were Saudi Arabian passports. Intelligent people in the USA knew this, and told the truth: that the US went into Iraq for oil. Why did the average person believe that Iraq was behind 9/11 and therefore why are we still in Iraq?

I am writing a research paper for my government class in college. I chose Foreign policy as my topic. Is troop withdrawal from Iraq specific enough or can you be even more specific in this topic? Thanks.
