I know the Army offers 3-5 year terms but how long is a term in the marines. I am considering joining but I have a lot of education ahead of me and a one year difference is a long time. Also, how long are the tours in Iraq? I’ve heard of three months to eighteen months.

We are now 9 years in Afghanistan and 7 years in Iraq.
Violence is steady, infrastructures are destroyed and the countries are heavens for criminals. What are you thoughts on this bottomless tax payer money drains?
Even most top generals have said, this wars can not be won, this wars are lunatic and this wars are just military testing grounds for useless war toys, nothing else. Woah, is the public misinformed!

Blackwater, a private military firm, contracted to provide security services for US officials in Iraq is no stranger to controversy. Recently two former employees have made allegations that the firm’s owner Eric Prince was a crusader who “encouraged and rewarded” the destruction of Iraqi life.

This video focuses on the soldiers in Iraq and their ordeal over there. It’s another video I made in spare time. Keep vulgar and hateful comments to yourself. This is tribute to the fallen men and women in uniform, not a political statement or debate about whether or not we should be there. Warning: there are some graphic pictures ! My Favorite poem that sums it up by Charles M. Province: It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion. It is the Soldier, not the …

I think the war in Iraq is progressing nicely toward the new Shiite government replacing Saddam’s brutal regime with a similar regime dominating the Sunni minority and tolerating the Kurds at least in the near term. It seems like the Shiite government is positioned to take control of most of the country in a timely fashion. The predominantly Sunni areas will remain disputed and require external assistance to prevent them from fortifying against the Iraqi government. If we leave them alone then there will be a civil war and the Sunnis will lose, leaving Iraq to pair itself alongside Iran and I think to join them as a sponsor of terror. Also, if we leave, then Saudi Arabia and other predominantly Sunni Arab countries will support the Sunni insurgents and drag out the Civil War, inflaming Sunni-Shiite tensions in the Arab world.
I think someone has to support Iraq to prevent this from happening? Unless we think we’d be better off with a Middle East at war with itself?

The returns from investing that way will be more world peace. Our economy and world image would increase too. My brother is in the army and even I know the Iraq war was a complete waste. The Republicans have some good ideas but the Iraq War is such a big mistake they will never be able to pay it back to this country.

The United States went from a Unitary government (while still a colony of England), to a Confederate (under the Articles of Confederation), and then finally into a Federal/Democracy.
The US wants Iraq to hold a Democratic government as well. What is it about Iraq that makes this difficult?
This is a question held in my Civics class. I get that the country is unstable right now….but are there any other reasons why it is so hard for Iraq to form a Democratic gov?

An Iraqi journalist has thrown his shoes at George Bush, the US president, in his last visit to Baghdad, shouting: “This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog.” One of the shoes narrowly missed the president’s head and slammed into the wall behind him. Nuri al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, tried to block the second with his arm. Throwing shoes at somebody is a supreme insult in the Middle East.
